SANDY: We’re all still a little shook up by the latest Earthquake in Melbourne Jane. Bring us the latest, will you?

JANE: It’s been quite frightening hasn’t it Sandy? The third Earthquake to hit Melbourne in under a year and the largest within 40km of the city in 120 years.

SANDY: Goodness me! Has there been a lot of damage?

JANE: Well reports and pictures are starting to come in on social media and as you can see, there’s quite a bit of tidying up that needs to be done, no lives lost yet, but the severity of these types of disasters will only become stronger over the next few years…

SANDY: #WeWillRebuild Jane – Melbourne Strong. And speaking of looming disasters, any new climate change news at the moment?

JANE: Oh absolutely, and of course it’s not good. The World Meteorological Organization in fact confirmed the worst, declaring a DEFINITE 66% chance of Earth breaking the 1.5C threshold above pre-industrial temperatures sometime between now and 2027 – due to human-induced climate change and the La Niña weather pattern increasing pacific ocean temperatures.

SANDY: That’s devastating news Jane

JANE: Well, scientists say the temperature rise will be temporary and wont break the Paris Agreement unless it continues for 20 year, but until then we should expect the to see the devastating repercussions of the changing climate

SANDY: Oh no! Like what?

JANE: Well, we will notice more rain where it rains, like in the UK, more heat where its hot, like in australia, more storms where there are storms, like in the   hot so remember to calm down  threshold WILL be – temporarily – passed, so it’s probably time for climate skeptics to apologise to that colleague at work whos been warning them about this in the tea room for the last 15 years.

SANDY: You’re probably right, Jane, and perhaps the apologies could extend to the climate heroes in the Netherlands too?

JANE: Absolutely, and it’s hard to believe that Police in The Hague could still be stuck in climate denial, arresting 1,500 Extinction Rebellion protesters for simply informing the public about the catastrophe, by creating a catastrophe that blocked a section of the A12 motorway. There were also protests held all around the world, people glueing themselves to roads and spraying artworks and stopping public events and damaging private property, I mena, how else are people going to take this issue seriously? All they want to say is…

SANDY: Oh I agree but we are right out of time for today unfortunately – hopefully they’ll keep clear of our roads and stop acting like children so we can all get to work on time right Jane?

JANE: Well, ah… That’s not really the point…

SANDY: Thanks Jane!
