BRIAN SOCKINGTON: And now to Sport with Joe Sockic, Joe the Commonwealth games are coming to a close

JOE SOCKIC: THANK GOD BRIAN!

BRIAN: Ok! Thanks Joe, and see you next week. Weather now with Jane Bunion, Jane, how’s the weather?

JANE BUNION: Yeah, not bad… But, ahh, doesn’t Joe want to do more sport news?

JOE: Ah, I suppose? There’s the World Flatwater Canoeing Championships in Canada? Or the World Junior Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships in Bulgaria, or the incredible Women’s European Championships of Chess in Prague?

JANE: Do something Brian!

BRIAN: CUT TO THE SPORTSWRAP JOE!!!

JOE: Umm, yeah, alright… Here’s the special Commonwealth games edition of INN SportsWrap for August 2022.

The Games in Birmingham were a big success, as was this Rainbow cow which was the mascot for some reasons. Australia, England and Canada won 51% of the medals out of the 72 commonwealth nations represented, the Aussie and Poms collectively receiving 124 gold medals, just under half on offer. Riveting stuff. Australian swimmer Emma McKeon won six golds, breaking the all-time record for medals won at a games. England’s Jake Jarman won 4 golds in the gymnastics, while New Zealand’ Aaron Gate actually managed to snare 4 golds for a different country in the cycling. So as the games come to a close, the torch or stick or water it is they pass around is handed to Rural Victoria in Australia, where Dan Andrews has pledged 2.6 billion dollars on top of his record breaking 165 billion dollar debt. Giving people who lost their jobs or are in hospital with covid something to look forward to watching on the telly.

JOE: There you go, that was the INN SportsWrap for August
