BRIAN: Thanks Joe – And now to Jane Bunion with the weather, Jane how severe is the weather and how long an outlook can you give us?

JANE: Well as you know, I work with the Bureau of Meteorology to make sure INN viewers get the absolute best guesses they can get about the weather in Australia and abroad, but unfortunately our long term forecast is not looking good – in any state or territory in the country. Here’s a summary of the Bureau’s long-term forecasts by state.

New South Wales can expect dams and rivers to be at capacity, with any rainfall likely to cause widespread flooding especially during unusually high tides around January.

Queensland will get more rain and high tide flooding too, plus a 74% chance of exceeding their annual tropical cyclone average of 4.

Victorians have been warned about a higher risk of thunderstorm asthma and hayf ever during the spring season, when they typically occur… but worse. There’ll also be an elevated risk of fire due to recent rainfall causing things that catch on fire to grow more.

Western Australia has a 69% chance of increased cyclone activity due to the warmer ocean waters in the Kimberley and Pilbara.

The Northern Territory starts wet season early due to warmer La Niña conditions and the negative Indian Ocean Dipole, creating heightened risk of fire centrally and a 61% chance of increased cyclone activity near coastal regions.

South Australia will have more fires, heatwaves and humidity, so definitely a place to continue to avoid wherever possible.

Same can be said for Tasmania and for our nation’s capital… uh, what’s it called?… Ah, the Australian Capital Territory, yeah. that’s right. It will probably flood. A lot.

JANE: And that’s the long-term weather outlook Joe, not great, but let’s see what danger we have in store for the next 9 and a half days now…

BRIAN: No! no thanks Jane – I think we’ve got the general idea, but thank you and we’ll see you next time.

JANE: Ok, Thanks Brian!
